Why is textured geomembrane required on reservoir and lagoon slopes instead of smooth?

Smooth geomembrane has a very low friction angle (approx 8°–11°), which causes protective soil, riprap, or workers to slip on wet slopes. Textured geomembrane increases the friction angle to over 28°, holding cover materials securely on steep embankments.

Can textured geomembranes be welded with standard hot wedge welding machines?

Yes. Modern dual-track hot wedge welding machines easily weld textured geomembranes. Some contractors prefer using rolls with a smooth welding edge (untextured 100mm margin) for ultra-fast wedge speed.

Is single-sided or double-sided texturing better for pond slopes?

Double-sided texturing is recommended when the geomembrane sits between an underlying geotextile/GCL and an overlying soil cover layer, locking both interfaces against slope failure.
